I went to an amazing 50th Birthday party in Brighton the other day. It was Tom’s dad’s birthday but us kids were all invited as well. Before I Introduce Tom Cole, I just want to paint you a mental picture of the amazing set up of this party, if i was to give it a theme, i would describe it as how i imagined the Weasley wedding from the Harry Potter books. It is my new bench mark basically.
Right, so their house is on a big hill that overlooks the whole of Brighton all the way to the sea and the view can be seen as you step out from their back door and make your way down some spiral stairs to the garden. The first sounds that I heard as me and my friends walked through a small mosaicked path with tall bushes on either side, was sort of Irish jig violin music and the sound of many happy conversations. We turned a small corner and emerged to see an burst of soft flashing lights and small crowds of people dancing and chatting as small children ran around with arms in the air. To the left was a small fire pit and a marquee with a massive table of finger food and home made ale, further down was a make-shift DJ booth made out of an old crepe stand with bits of wood nailed over it to make a roof and a kind of bar/ drinks table full of booze. The bar was charging £1 a cocktail, but the guy making them was too much of a dude to actually charge! But the creme de la creme of the party was this marquee in the middle which covered half of the garden. It was held up by two stripped down tree trunks with light tarpaulin draped between the two, with fairy lights, disco lights and a glitter ball in the middle. The dance floor was lots of flat pieces of wood with miss matched rugs and bits of carpets and material laid over the top leading to a small summer house with cushey seating and a wood burning aga. It was an amazing, warm set up that i was blown away by, so well done the Cole fam!
Aaaaaaany way, Tom Cole. A good friend and an even better illustrator ( http://tomclohosycole.co.uk/ ) Hope fully we should be collaborating for a new tee design in the near future. Keep your peepers peeping!
Heres some pics of his recent degree show on Life insurance.
